10 Days Discovering Nicaragua

Flight to reach the Nicaraguan capital city. After the migratory process, our guide will wait for you at the exit of the airport to take you to your hotel, so you can check in and prepare for the amazing adventure that awaits you.

Night: Managua

After breakfast you will be driven to the hotel in León, and help you check-in.  Then you will do a historical city tour, where you can appreciate the colorful colonial architecture of the center, which include the imposing cathedral and the facades of their churches!

Night: León

Today you will do “Sandboarding” in Cerro Negro, the youngest volcano in Central America, located in the outskirts of León.  1 hour drive will get you there.  You will have to hike up the 728 meter high volcano to reach the top. There are two different ways to go down the volcano: you can stand up like on a snowboard, or you can sit down like on a sled. Then the fun really continues as you will slide or surf down the slope in less than 3 minutes! After this amazing experience, you will spend the afternoon at the beach, sipping a refreshment, watching the sunset or swimming in the ocean.

Night: León

Today you drive north to Matagalpa: located in the north highlands that make the water shed division of the Caribbean and Pacific rivers, it’s a perfect spot for mountain hiking, bird watching, horseback riding, wildlife watching, agrotourism or just a good  scenery for photographs.  It has a nice temperate climate, from the hotter León.
Night: Selva Negra

Selva Negra maintains more than 20 kilometers of hiking trails through the dense cloud forest, home to almost 200 identified bird species. Besides these abundant birds, you can also encounter small mammals (there is a good chance of spotting howler monkeys), reptiles and amphibians. If you take one of the tougher, steeper hikes you will be rewarded with some splendid views of the city of Matagalpa and the mountains surrounding it.  This private wildlife refuge has over 300 acres, strictly reserved as the refuge, but there are other 400 acres as secondary forest, in the form of shaded coffee plantation!

Night: Selva Negra

Transfer day to the colonial city of Granada.  Before reaching it, you will explore Masaya: the artisan’s market is not only a beautiful place in an old 1900’s structure that is located near the center of the city, but also a great place to buy nice souvenirs! Then, if mother nature allows, you will visit the Masaya Volcano National Park: it comprises an area of 54 km² and includes two volcanoes and five craters. The volcanoes have erupted several times in history. The Spanish baptized the active volcano “La Boca del Infierno” or “The Mouth of Hell”. They planted a cross, “La Cruz de Bobadilla” (named after Father Francisco Bobadilla) on the crater lip in the 16th century in order to exorcise the Devil, and it’s still there!

Night: Granada

Today you will visit one of the most popular volcanoes in Nicaragua, the Mombacho. Its 4 craters are covered with cloud forest. You can walk around one of the craters, or hike around several craters. Besides lots of different trees and plants that thrive because of the cloud forests humidity you can also observe howler and white face monkeys, as well as snakes, deer, reptiles, birds, and insects. The views to the Managua Lake and its Ilsetas is amazing.

The other visit of the day is the Apoyo Lagoon: in the Nicaraguan Pacific coast, in the middle of the long volcanic chain, there is a wide and extended crater in a form of an inverted cone, and in the center of it, there is one of the most beautiful lagoons in Nicaragua! The natural beauty of the place, the abundant flora and fauna, the calm and clean water of the lagoon and the green slopes of the crater make this an excellent stop in your vacation package!

Night: Granada

After a short transfer, you will arrive at the beach in San Juan del Sur, a perfectly U-shapped bay with tranquil waters, a colorful town with a vivid nightlife and delicious gastronomy!  You can just relax at the beach, your hotel or visit a couple of nearby beaches like the small surf spot in Maderas beach!

Night: San Juan del Sur

You go back to the capital city in Managua, after a relaxing morning at the beach and a flavorful lunch by the ocean.  You will have time for a quick city tour in the most important economic city of Nicaragua, and then you will check back into your hotel for your last night in this beautiful Centralamerican country.

Farewell to Nicaragua. Transfer out to Augusto Sandino International Airport in Managua, say good bye to your new friends, and…. SEE YOU NEXT YEAR!!! HAVE A GOOD FLIGHT HOME!!!
