Chirripo

• Departure at 10:00 am from a convenient point in San José.
• Lunch stop at 12:00pm. (not included in the price)
• Arrival at San Gerardo  at 3:00 pm, to register in the park ranger´s office.
• Dinner at 7:30 pm at your hotel, where you will spend this first night.

• Breakfast at 4:15 am.
• Start hiking at 5:00 am.
• You will have all day to reach the camp base. In general you would do it in less than 9 hours, so you will make it there for lunch.
• Dinner at 7:00 pm at the base camp.

• Breakfast at 6:30 am.
• Today you have a free day to continue hiking: naturally you will want to reach the 3820 meters above sea level peak, but you can also do other hikes to Crestones for example.
• Once again, dinner at the end of the day at the base camp. 

• Breakfast at 6:00 am.
• Right after breakfast you will hand over the luggage to to the carriers and you will initiate your descend back to San Gerardo.
• Once you reach the bottom, you can change your clothes and have lunch.
• Return to San José !

This national park of Costa Rica encompasses three provinces: San José, Limón and Cartago. Established in 1975, it was named for its most prominent feature, Cerro Chirripó with an altitude of 3,820 metres.  Most of the park consists of primary rain and cloud forests that you will enjoy in the almost 17 km hike from San Gerardo de Rivas to the camp base in Crestones. There is another 5 km hike to the peak.

• Lodging in a hotel in San Gerardo and in Crestones Base Camp (with blankets and pillows).

• All meals from dinner of day 1 to breakfast of day 4.

• National Park´s entrance fee.

• Carriers for the luggage to and from the base camp.

• Sunblock.
• Light clothing for the hiking: remember that even if it´s cold, your body will heat-up in the first few steps.
• Raincoat, especially if you are going during the rainy season.
• Your personal medicines, include lipstick, insect repellent.
• Hiking pole.
• Snacks and water for the hikes.
• Use comfortable hiking shoes for long hikes (hopefully not brand new)
• Warm clothing since the temperature is low due to the altitude: it can easily drop to 5 celsius at any given day.
