The Concepción Volcano is 1610 meters high, the second highest in Nicaragua. It is located in the north-western part of Ometepe, and it has a perfect cone-shape that becomes a beautiful picture from practically any part of the island. The Concepción was dormant for several hundreds of years until it erupted again in 1880. Since then, there were 8 eruptions, including the last in March 2010, when it spit out a huge ash cloud. The trail to the summit is steep and difficult: after some 4 hours of trekking you will be rewared with a spectacular view or (if it is cloudy) with a sense of accomplishment and fulfillment!

Program

Hiking Ometepe

Day 1

SAN JOSÉ – NICARAGUA

Departure from San José at 4:00 am from the bus terminal.
Breakfast stop on the way, not included in the price.
Arrival at the border for all the migratory requirements, to cross over to Nicaragua.
Arrival at Rivas, to transfer to San Jorge Ferry.
Ferry will drop you in Moyogalpa, where you will have lunch at a local restaurant.
Taxi transfer to your hotel and check-in.
End of the afternoon free!

Night: Ometepe

Day 2

TREKKING CONCEPCIÓN VOLCANO

Breakfast at 6:30 am.
Departure to Concepción Volcano at 7:00 am.
Hike can take 6-8 hours depending on your pace.
After lunch, the rest of the afternoon is free.

Night: Ometepe

Day 3

RETURN

Breakfast at 8:00 am.
Transfer to Moyogalpa to catch the Ferry Boat to San Jorge in Rivas.
Return to San José in the 12:30 pm bus.
